Being Grounded-
Grounding, in the present moment to release stress:

“Stopping and Dropping”, into the body to release stress:
1st Meditation- Ross will help us become more aware of our bodies and the safe sensations in them. Gently guiding the awareness back in a non-judgmental way, from harmful thoughts and emotions.
Break Time: Goodies and Chatting (10:15am)
Being Open- Opening movements to restore the energy:
Peter will offer restorative poses and breathing practice that releases more stress, plus a handout on working with the breath.
“Opening and Smiling” to restore the energy:
2nd Meditation- Ross will invite us to learn how open to the tight and unpleasant sensations in the body and rest. Also to bring the restorative and healing energy of a “simple smile” to the sensations of the body, the emotions of the heart and the thoughts of the mind.
Being Grounded and Open:
Here we will explain the benefits of being “grounded and open”. How the two simple practices of “Stopping & Dropping” and “Opening & Smiling” are applied to our daily lives. Also we look at what the Sage and the Scientist say about the benefits of the simple smile.
We will touch on the practices of “Knowing & Flowing” and “Inquiring to Understand” to reduce future stress. This will be follow by Q & A, (11:45am)
Closing & Chatting Time
ABOUT THE TEACHERS
Ross Clark: (meditation) Ross was first trained as a meditation teacher in Sri Lanka, by a Buddhist nun. He continues to do three to five retreats a year, ranging in length from a week-end to one month at the Forest Refuge in Barre, Mass. U.S.A.
He teaches simple and effective ways of reducing harmful stress, through a blend of western science, eastern philosophy and personal experience. Ross has also examined the scientific approach to how stress works in the body, heart & mind. He has found that western science and eastern meditations compliment each other.
Peter Brother: (yoga) Peter has been interested in yoga and eastern orientations for over 35 years. He has been practicing yoga for over 10 years and trained to teach yoga and meditation with The Yoga Sanctuary in Toronto, the Himalayan Institute in Pennsylvania and with Xenia Splawinski for the last 3 years in the more esoteric aspects of yoga.
His current interests center on gently experiencing the wisdom of the body, the breath, working with the main energy centers and meditation.
ABOUT HEALTHY & UNHEALTHY STRESS
Healthy stress:
Is characterized by the mind feeling confident. There is a sense that even though the stressors may be challenging, they are still manageable. With skilled responses to the stressors, we feel alive; growing healthier and stronger as we understand the stressors more.
Unhealthy Stress:
Is characterized by the mind feeling overwhelmed. There is a sense that, “this is too much for me to handle”. The accompanying emotions are often anger and depression which leave us feeling down. These negative emotions cause our mental and physical health to suffer.
